Remove the background from an image
Upload a photo and get it back without the background: a transparent PNG, on pure white, or framed for Amazon. It runs inside your browser, so your photo is never uploaded anywhere.
On first use your browser downloads the removal engine (about 50 MB on a phone) and keeps it, so next time it starts instantly. Works best with one product or one person in the photo. Check very fine edges, such as thin chains or hair, zoomed in.
remove.bg closes on December 1, 2026
remove.bg's own FAQ says its standalone website will no longer be available from 1 December 2026 at 9:00 CET. What that means for existing users, from the same page:
- The standalone website will no longer be available. Background removal moves into Canva, and API access moves to Leonardo.ai, both owned by Canva.
- Annual subscriptions keep working until the shutdown and then end. Unused time after that date is refunded pro rata.
- Monthly subscriptions end at the shutdown. Any final renewal on or after November 1 is free.
- Unused pay-as-you-go credits expire on 1 December 2026.
- The self-service API stops accepting requests on 1 December 2026. Enterprise API contracts continue.
- The Photoshop plugin and the other integrations are discontinued.
- Accounts are not accessible after the shutdown, so export invoices and credit-usage reports before then.

Why is it free?
The model runs on your own computer or phone, not on our servers, so processing an image costs us nothing. The same fact keeps your photos private: they never leave your browser. The tool is made by IsraModel AI, an Israeli platform that turns phone photos of products into studio and on-model shots for online stores.

Is it really free?
Yes. No sign-up, no credits, no watermark and no limit on how many images you process. Each round takes up to 20 photos, and you can run as many rounds as you like.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The background is removed inside your browser, on your own computer or phone. On first use the browser downloads the removal engine (about 50 MB on a phone) and keeps it, and your photo itself never leaves your device.
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes: in your online store, on marketplaces, in ads and on social media. The model behind the tool is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence, which allows commercial use.
What size are the results?
Your photo's own size, up to 2,560 pixels on the long side. Larger photos are scaled down to that.
How do I remove the background from many images at once?
Select up to 20 photos in the file picker, or drop them all at once. They are processed one after another, and you download them together as one ZIP file, as transparent PNGs, on white, or framed for Amazon.
How do I make an Amazon main image?
After the background is removed, choose "Amazon". You get a square JPG on exact white (255,255,255), with the product centred and filling 85% of the frame, at least 1,000 pixels per side, which is what Amazon asks for in a main image.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in an up-to-date Chrome or Safari. On a phone each photo can take up to half a minute, so for a large batch a computer is faster.
Can it remove the background from a logo or a signature?
Yes. Choose "A logo or signature on white paper" before uploading. In that mode the white paper turns transparent and thin strokes are kept, instantly and without downloading anything.
What happens to my remove.bg credits?
According to remove.bg's FAQ, unused pay-as-you-go credits expire on 1 December 2026, and annual plans get a pro-rata refund for unused time. Use your credits before then, or export what you need.
