Etsy product photos with a handmade feel
Etsy buyers are not looking for a sterile catalog. They want to see the piece in a real setting, at a real scale, made with care. Here is what Etsy asks of your listing photos, and how to produce a warm, consistent set without building a set at home.

This is according to Etsy’s help center, checked October 15, 2026. Etsy does not lock listings to one exact ratio; it crops the same photo differently in different places, which is the real thing to plan for.
Plan for three crops, not one
Etsy shows your first photo as a square in some places, a portrait in others and a landscape elsewhere. Its help center asks for enough border around the product that all three crops keep the whole item, with the subject clear in each view. In practice: center the product, leave breathing room on every side, and keep anything important out of the edges.
The free resizer has an Etsy preset that exports a landscape 3,000 x 2,250 image with the product fitted inside on white, so the short side stays above the 2,000 pixels Etsy recommends and the product is never cut by the frame.
What makes an Etsy photo feel handmade
- Soft, natural-looking light. Window light reads as honest; hard flash reads as a warehouse.
- Natural surfaces. Wood, linen, stone, a plant at the edge of the frame. They say “made by a person” without a word of copy.
- Scale. A ring on a finger, a mug in a hand, a print on a wall. Handmade items have no brand reference, so buyers need to see the size.
- Detail. Close-ups of the weave, the glaze, the solder line. This is where the craft shows and where the price is justified.
- Every variation. If it comes in three colors, show three colors. Buyers should not have to message you to find out.
